Native tree pigeon pea is a desi variety of pigeon pea (toovar) that is perennial and grows into a small tree (up to 8-10 feet.) The plants a perennial and live  and produce harvests for many years. It produces harvests twice a year, and is covered in deep red pods. The flowers are dual colored, red and yellow, and attract many pollinators. The plants grow very fast and are highly drought tolerant. An excelllent biomass producing plant and companion plant for fruit trees, as it is a nitrogen fixer. It can be harvested 2 times a year for biomass to use a mulch or in compost/ green manure. Also useful as a fodder crop, and the sticks are useful for making trellises and fences.
