Syrian spotted lettuce is one of the oldest heirloom varieties of lettuce, still being preserved today. Its history is traced back all the way to the 1600s!!  It is a romaine type lettuce, with distinctive purple spots all over it leaves. Traditionally used to scoop up dips like hummus. 
It has great heat tolerance, and suitable for growing year round in many parts of the country.
